ETX is a proven, mature, accepted and widely deployed Computer on Module standard which excels where PCI and, or, ISA bus interfacing is required. The ETX specification describes the heat spreader that can be used to transfer heat from the ETX module to the enclosure/heat sink/etc. ETX is designed for low to medium power processors and has successfully established itself in fanless and fan cooled applications.

Each ETX computer on module has four connectors that form the electrical and physical connection to the carrier board. The connectors are arranged to ensure that the ETX module cannot be fitted to the carrier board incorrectly.
